Gallbladder Flush - Clean your Gallbladder without Surgery
disclaimer: I’m not a licensed health care provider. Although I personally believe the following information to be extremely useful, it is strictly for informational use only! I am not responsible for anything that may occur as a result of taking the advice in the following article!
About a year ago I started having a dull pain behind my lower, right rib. I wrote it off as gas for several months, but it eventually became extremely annoying, so I decided to look into it.
I asked my sister, Kelly, who is a Registered Nurse and after explaining all of the symptoms etc. she told me it must be my gallbladder.
So, I went to the VA clinic (I have a health insurance plan for Claudia and Aaon, but I just go through the VA ugh) and went through several tests including:
- blood analysis
- 2 x-rays
- ultra sound
- 2 gastroindoscopies
What did the good ol Veterans Affairs doctors tell me? I have a few “micro” gall stones, but nothing serious. They were kind enough to offer surgery to have the gallbladder removed though lol
The VA is known for having substandard doctors and clinics, so the thought of going under the knife at the local VA hospital honestly scared me, even though it is a very basic procedure. So, instead I decided to do some research on Gallbladder flushes, well Claudia did
After looking through several sites, both German and American, the same basic flush kept coming up (below.) All of these sites claimed it was extremely safe and effective in cleansing both the liver and the gallbladder, so I gave it a shot.
After doing the flush I passed HUNDREDS of pea sized gallstones and feel GREAT…it worked!!
Not only is the pain gone, I don’t feel as bloated as I did before after eating… I’m running much better when working out and I just feel better in general!
NONE of the VA doctors even hinted toward a flush like this, yet after doing it, all of the symptoms are gone… pathetic!
Here are a few important notes:
- The flush is supposed to be 100% safe and I tend to believe it! One doctor said it’s “safer than safe.”
- Many people recommend doing this once a year, whether you have gallbladder disease symptoms or not… it’s just good for your digestive track, liver and gallbladder in general! Some even recommend it if you’ve previously had your gallbladder removed, as gallbladder removal normally doesn’t remove all of the stones.
- It typically takes at least 2 flushes, with 2-3 weeks in between, to remove all gallstones, although the first flush will make you feel MUCH better… I know it did for me!
- It’s very important to follow this procedure EXACTLY “to a T.” Every where I found the procedure, it was stressed that the times and procedures were very important… don’t “cut corners” or do your own thing.
The World Famous Gallbladder Flush
What you’ll need:
* 1/2 Cup Olive Oil
* 1 Large GrapeFruit or 3 Lemons
* 4 tablespoon EPSOM salt
* 3 cups water
* 4-8 Ornithin Tablets (optional)
note: You should start with a Friday, Saturday or the day before a day in which you don’t have much going on… you will be having MANY bowel movements the next day and you may be tired, so it’s good to be free of commitment the day after you start the flush!
Don’t take any medications, vitamins, supplements or anything else during the process.
Procedure: Eat a non-fat breakfast and lunch on the day you begin. I ate oatmeal for breakfast and some steamed vegetables and a baked potato, seasoned with salt, for lunch… it was actually pretty good. This causes “bile” to build up and develop pressure in the liver, which will cause more stones to be pushed out later on (very important.) I read stories of people throwing up and feeling like crap when not obeying this first step.
2:00 PM - Don’t eat or drink after 2 P.M. Mix 4 tablespoons Epsom Salt with 3 cups of water and pour it all into a pitcher. This will equal 4 servings (3/4 cup each,) which you’ll be using over the course of the procedure. Put the pitcher in the refrigerator to get it nice and cold (it’s even worse when it’s not cold!) Don’t drink anything yet. I squeezed some lemon juice in with the salt mixture to help with the taste.
6:00 PM - Drink the first serving of the salt water mixture (3/4 cup.) You can drink a couple mouthfuls of water afterwards to get help with the aftertaste. If you REALLY can’t stand the taste, you can skip the next dose of saltwater, but you may not get as many stones… I did both and recommend you do as well.
8:00 PM - Drink your second serving of the salt water mixture (3/4 cup.)
9:45 PM - Mix 1/2 to 3/4 cup freshly squeezed grapefruit (pulp removed) with EXACTLY 1/2 cup olive oil in a shakable container. Shake vigorously until it’s “watery.” If you have anything you need to do before bed, or feel like going to the toilet AT ALL, go now, because once you drink the olove oil mix, you MUST go to bed immediately for the flush to work properly!
10:00 PM - If you typically have trouble sleeping, take 4-8 ornithin tablets to help you sleep. (I’m in the U.S. and the 2 pharmacists I went to had no idea what it was. I eventually had to order it online.) Now drink the olive oil mixture you mixed while still standing up! Try to get it all down within a minute or two. The quicker the better… and IMMEDIATELY after you’ve drank the last sip lay down and try not to move for at least 20 minutes. If you don’t lie down immediately you may not get nearly as many stones out. After 20 minutes remain in bed, but relax and go to sleep. Don’t get up for at least several hours unless you absolutely MUST. (I got up at 4 a.m. and had a bowel movement, passed some stones and went back to bed… woke up later and passed more… everything was fine)
Morning - As soon as you wake up drink the third dose of your salt mixture (not before 6 a.m. - this was the worst one for me… nearly made me puke.) You can go back to bed after this if you want. Two hours later take the last dose of the salt mixture. By this time I had about 5 bowel movements and ended up having about 15 (yeah, it was bad… but so good,) so I didn’t even take the last dose of salt mix. Whether or not you take the last dose should be determined by the amount of bowel movements you have… your call. If you’re not sure then go ahead and drink the last one.
Every bowel movement you have for the rest of the day (for me anyway) will probably contain gall stones. They are typically bright green in color and the size can vary. I had hundreds and hundreds of tiny stones with 40-50 pea sized stones and a few about twice the size of a pea. Their consistency (for me anyway) was really waxy. Not hard, but not soft.
Congratulations, you’ve just flushed your liver, gallbladder and digestive track without surgery.
You should feel MUCH better now
2 Weeks Later - Repeat to get the rest of the stones out!

Josh, wanted to say thank you for this post. I only wish I’d seen it 12 years ago when they discovered the symptoms I’d been having for about 10 years where actually gall stones.
I tried oriental herbs for about 6 months, but didn’t really have any relief, so I had them take out the gall bladder and that helped incredibly.
I have friends who had their gall bladders removed, but who say that the gall stones themselves came back. That’s a scary thought!!
Please update us when you do your second flush after 2 weeks! Are you thinking of doing this on a regular basis?
Can you give us links to a couple of sites where you found this flush? I’d like to read more.
By the way, I have a great old “natural remedies” book that advocates straight lemon juice first thing in the morning to stimulate the liver.
Thanks
Katie
do you
Yeah, I’ve read similar stories of gallstones appearing after the gallbladder was removed. I believe the reason for that is because they are actually created in the liver.
Many people say you can and even should do this flush (it’s a liver flush as well) even if you’ve already had your gallbladder removed.
I still feel great and although it hasn’t quite been 2 weeks I plan on doing the second flush sometime in the next few days.
I jut looked for main source I originally got the info from and of course I couldn’t find it.
It’s a PDF document that’s floating around in the “gallbladder flush” and related search engine results pages.
Thanks Josh, I’ll go see what I can find.
My understanding was that the gall bladder secretes the fluids that help the liver digest/filter fats. Which implied to me that it was a pre-liver thing. I can see from the diagram above that the gall bladder appears to be below the liver and later in the processing…But we all know the body is intricately connected, so I guess I’m still not sure how it all works together.
Unfortunately for me the internet had just come into the small rural community where I live during the time when I had the problems, so it was difficult to even get access online to the information then. At least my doctor was the one who suggested that oriental medicine might be helpful.
I may want to try your flush anyway (even without the gallbladder) since I had a liver disease when I was younger. There does not seem to be any residual problem or weakness, but I can see that a “tune-up” might be useful.
thanks again…
@ Katie - I’m not extremely clear on the subject either, but I know you’re right. The gallbladder secretes bile, which helps break down fats. But, I do believe that happens after it passes through the liver.
I’d try it! It can’t hurt and I bet you’ll feel better. It’s actually considered a liver flush as well. I’ve heard only positive things and haven’t heard even one negative to this flush.
I’m doing Flush #2 as we speak!
Hey Josh, nice job on the web site. I spent yesterday at the ER. They decided I had Gall Bladder problems without a fever. I’d done a 12 hour dogwatch and still couldn’t sleep. Last night at work (yeah, looong day) while doing research found your article.
Are these pretty much similar circumstances to what you went through before the flush? I’m a bit concerned that the bile duct is already plugged and further flushing may just cause a bigger back up/pain problem. The final result would probably be the otherwise assumed endgame…surgery.
I get that you’re not a doctor, but just curious if you had similar painful symptoms that were relieved or had the symptoms passed and weeks later you did the flush. It’s just a question of timing.
Thanks for your service. The families of our servicemen are carrying too much of this load. It seems a wonderful marriage may prove to be the most important result in your life and that’s really cool.
Tom
Hey Tom,
Thanks and glad to hear you’re back home!
What were your symptoms? I had an almost constant dull pain in the lower-left site of my right rib. When I ate fatty foots it got worse.
I was also REALLY bloated all the time. I would eat a single bowl of cereal in the morning, nothing else, and by noon I would still feel like I just ate a steak dinner.
The pain wasn’t horrible, but the dull aching and bloating just made me miserable.
My sister had a gallbladder attack a while back. She said it felt like she was dying. She had hers removed.
I honestly have no idea whether or not the flush could make it worse if your ducts were completely blocked. Sorry, wish I could be more helpful.
Thanks for the quick response, Josh.
Your sister’s attack sounds more like what I went through. The thought of getting scoped, the inconvenience, and the cost have sort of convinced me to go ahead and flush.
Worse comes to worse and I’ll go in and get it yanked. That is sort of the path they had me going down anyway. It is amazing that after a day of eating nothing but fruits and veggies the pain is pretty much gone.
It’s almost time for the first salt water…arrgh. I’ll let ya know how it all comes out…pun intended.
Tom
Hi Josh,
Well, I just got up and did my third salt water. Nothing too exciting to report. There was a bowel movement during the night, but not particularly productive. I’m not “catching” the bm like they would in a hospital so it’s hard to say anything about stones.
Uhh, I’m hungry. Yesterday was half a cantaloupe and a salad before starting to fast at 1400. I’m looking forward to lunch.
The grapefruit vinaigrette wasn’t too disgusting, but choking down the fourth salt water will not be pleasant.
No bad side effects other than I could eat a horse.
One thing’s for sure. This bland fruit and veggie diet will strip some pounds off me.
Tom
Yeah, sounds like you definitely need this then!
That salt water is NASTY isn’t it? and in the morning it’s even worse, man, that’s the worst part of the whole thing, that and the hunger!
So, you didn’t see any stones this morning went you had a bowel movement? If not you will next time
Oh yeah, LMAO it appeared I was blocked in more places than the bile duct. Worked like a champ! There were definitely stones and the pain is gone. I’m skipping the next salt water and rollin out to eat breakfast. A healthy one, low fat.
Joanne (the better half) is having her kitchen cabinets/counters redone and the tear out is in progress. There’s too much activity there so woohooo. I’m outa here.
Thanks a bunch for having the stones to blog this stuff. Not going far cause have a feeling more trips to the head are inevitable.
Thanks a lot, Josh. Peace/Love
HAHA that’s great!! Yeah, I skipped the last salt water both times because I’d already been to the bathroom several times before I was supposed to.
Great to hear the post helped someone else
Hopefully more people do the same!
Josh,
Thanks for posting the recipe as well as your results. My last gallbladder attack was a year and two weeks ago. I was in the ER getting 4 rounds of morphine, but declined the surgery because I was already consulting my chinese herbalist about it. (BTW, the ER doc told me that the gallbladder is useless and mine only had 1 stone in it. It also was not inflamed or diseased; however, all the treatment info he gave me before I left specifically was for “Your Diseased Gallbladder”. Hmmmmm…)
My herbalist had me doing the olive oil flushes and at the time of that attack, I had already dropped about 200 stones doing those. I’ve done the flushes every 4 months or so and have dropped over 600 stones. I’ve been feeling the urge (a.k.a. the slight pressure under the right rib) to do one lately and I’m trying your recipe this weekend. I had been doing the one with olive oil, lemon juice and CocaCola, but yours sounds much more tolerable.
Thanks again.
Hey Josh -
A good place to find information on this and other cleanses (kidney and colon) is http://curezone.com/
About the middle of the page is a “directory” bar….along about 3/4ths of the way across is the name “Clark”.
These are the pages dedicated to Dr. Hulda Clark. Most folks use her liver flush, although I get good results with a 2 day apple juice fast instead of the salts(GAK!). The juice softens the stones, whereas the salts make the common bile duct relax - either way the stones won’t hurt while exiting.
I must say that the parasite protocol is important. I have found that skipping that part can really made me sick.
Also it is great you had such a good result the first time! Many times the subject has to do the flush several times before getting a good result. I sure did. The last two times I got about 15 stones the size of my thumbnail, plus chaff. WHOOOHOOO! Paydirt for a tough job.
OH! http://drclarkstore.com/ is a great place to get your supplies. Very reasonable prices, top quality. For some reason I think her son owns it…?
Wow. We are sure getting relaxed about our privates these days. I say it’s great to keep each other out from under the knife and feeling clear and light!
Happy flushing!
Anita
HeY Josh, This flush is real similar to the Chinese Doc I saw a couple months ago. Western Medicine is the best to start with as it is natural, In my humble opinion. This doctor could tell me all my pain and problems just by reading the tongue. Wild to hear, but it is true. I am going to do the flush this weekend… Wish Me Luck!!!!

Hi Josh - Thanks very much for sharing your experience. 15 years ago my mom had her gall bladder removed after months of horrible attacks, only to be subject to one of those ‘minor associated risks’ of this type of surgery: pancreatitis. It might be a rare complication, but 15 years later she can be dropped for days without warning with comparable pain now from the pancreas that requires regular morphine shots at home to manage. For you and your other readers, much as you may be desperate for relief, we’ve now been told the risk of pancreatitis is higher if the gall bladder is ‘hot’ (active or very recent attack) at the time of surgery.
Also, I’m not disputing your experience or finding but like so many things moderation is key. The following Mayo Clinic links cite risks associated with over-use:
GALL BLADDER FLUSHING:
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/gallbladder-cleanse/AN01283
COLON CLEANSING:
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/colon-cleansing/AN00065
The Mayo is clearly western-medicine based, but it has a much more respected reputation than the one you associate with the VA.
I’ve enjoyed reading your blogs. Thanks!
@ Flipper - Sorry to hear about your Mother’s horrible experience! Just another reason to do flushes!
Thanks for the link. It’s exactly what I would expect a doctor to say. I think most doctors are against anything that doesn’t require their assistance…
He mentions that the stones may not really be stones. lol I KNOW mine were! These weren’t clots of oil!
He also doesn’t seem to understand the process. He talks about the oil being a laxative. The oil is what flushes the stones out, but the Epsom salt is the laxative.
It’s also horrible advice to say having gallstones without symptoms is OK. Yeah, you’ll live, but your insides will be clogged up. I don’t know about that doctor, but I believe a person with open tubes is healthier than one with tubes full of rocks. How effective would a garden hose be if it were full of stones? It’s the same with the human body.
You’re right about the Mayo Clinic and it’s good reputation, but I don’t take this doctor’s “advice” in the least bit
I’m doing my 3rd flush this week and can’t wait. The first 2 have made me feel loads better.
Just wondering if anyone can answer this question. Some of the images I see on the net of stones that have been flushed show them to be up to 20mm in diameter. But the bile duct is only 8mm in diameter.
How could such stones be forced through the duct?
I’d say those stones are very rare. Although I do believe it. It’s just like kidney stones. The tube they pass through is normally much smaller
On average, of the hundreds of gallbladder stones I’ve passed, the size was about that of a pea.
Hi Josh,
Ok I am going to do this flush next week, once I get my kids off to school for the entire day.
I must say I am nervous about doing it. My attacks are not too bad yet, only a few over the years and none that did not go away on their own in a few to several hours later. I did see a dcotor last summer who of course wanted to remove my gallbladder immediately. Said I could have a bad time in about ten years…so let’s take it out now! LOL! Yeah …I do not think so!
Anyhow, my question to you is this. How is it that this happens to some people and not to others? Is it the diet? Or just bad luck? And how often do I need to do the cleanses? AND….should we really hydrate ourselves before, during or after this procedure??? I am VERY sensitve to meds and treatments and so I am very nervous that this will have ill effects on me. Just want to make sure before I begin, that I know what to look for and if I am in a danger zone at any time???
Thanks for the advice!
Pam
I would like to share my husband’s gallbladder cleanse experience. He started Friday at 6pm with his epsom salt and water, then at 8pm,,and at 10pm he drinked the olive oil and lemon juice…then morning came and he passed some sludge, and total of 16 stones was passed about 1pm saturday.Around 5 pm he had horrible pains that he said he felt like he will pass out and today is sunday he is still in pain. What do u think is causing all these pains?I am just concerned.Thanks.
I am no doctor, but I just started taking Ox Bile to help digest fats, it’s suppose to be good for that. After I took it my right rib cage area started to hurt, at first I thought Ox Bile must be bad for me, but than I did some research and saw no bad side effects other than heavy bowl movements online. I than figured that Ox Bile puts more than usual amounts of bile into my gallbladder and liver, and maybe it hurts because I am flushing something out. I have cut down on eating as much meat and eggs, and make small concotions of olive oil and lemons at night, I have noticed much less pain when taking the Ox Bile. So I guess what I’m saying is pain is your bodies way of telling you something is wrong, or something is passing. Again I’m not doctor, and if your husbands in pain take him to see a doctor first and foremost. But it may just be he is passing something.
Hay Josh,
I just had an upper GI with small intestine done along with an ultra sound to my gallbladder. I have no word back yet from the doctors. I know your not a doctor but I was wondering if anyone out there has had the same symptoms as me, vomiting, upset stomach, can’t sleep, headaches, pain in upper stomach area, hot/cold, loose movements sometimes 2-4 times a day.
Thanks for your info.
Susan
PS A friend of mine just told me of a name of a book to read. Its entitled “Are you Stoned”. She said it has the formula for the gallbladder flush in it. It’s a good book.
I was very cautious of doing a liver gallbladder flush, because I had always heard that it was a complete waste of time. But at the beginning of 2008, a couple of coworkers and myself all decided to give it a try. We ended up following this liver gallbladder cleanse:
http://www.ghchealth.com/liver-and-gallbladder-cleanse.html
I was blown away at how many gallstones came out of my body! I’m not kidding, there must’ve been at least 100. I don’t think a liver gallbladder cleanse would be for everyone, but it definitely helped me… i can attest to that!
Susan,
It is hard to say if I had the “can’t sleep” as I have chronic insomnia but I had everything else except the headache - took doctors over a month to figure out it was my gb (functioning at only 3%) partially because I had pneumonia when my symptoms began. I had a somewhat unique symptom where my gag reflexes were on super-hyper-overdrive (for lack of a better description). Smells, tastes, and simply breathing would set off the vomiting - once I changed my diet (high carb, high fiber, low fat) I felt normal within 48 hours (after having constant severe symptoms for over a month) and - 48 hours before my gb removal, I still feel great. I haven’t tried the flush, not sure I will but wanted to pass along the diet change. I’m not going to say “do or don’t do” the flush but definately, if you aren’t already, consider changing your diet to ‘heart healthy’ - this may do the trick for others out there.
Hi Josh,
I am so glad I found your blog describing similar issues to mine. I haven’t really had any “attacks” or symptoms other than awful bloating. That is my most gigantic misery and it has been going on and off for the past year. The doctor did an ultrasound and found I have gallstones. He said basically if I don’t have symptoms don’t worry about it but eventually it will probably be a problem and I will probably need to get it out. Every one tells me I should get it out or one of the stones will move, get lodged and I will land myself a painful visit to the E.R. I, like you, have been doing a ton of online research to see if there are other options and had come across these flushes. It was cool to see your post as a regular person who had done it and successfully so. I enjoy jogging and was training for half marathons. I was appalled that I was running for an hour and a half at a time and would still have this incredible bloated feeling, just exactly like you described - didn’t really eat that much but felt as full and bloated as though I had a full 4 course meal or something! I am really excited to do this flush now, but since I am working during the week I may wait til this friday to start but it will kill me to wait that long because I want the relief now! Can you tell me this, what kind of diet changes did you make? (If any). I love healthy food but I also love everything else too. Are there any good websites or books for that that you have found and liked? I am currently reading eating right 4 your type by dr. d’adamo and perfect health by deepak chopra. They are a wealth of information but I am always looking for creative ways to eat healthy food. thanks again!
